Inspiration...

Isn't this pretty? My bloggy friend, Lori has a wonderfully beautiful blog, I love her sense of style and taste, I just love everything on the blog as well as how it looks. Anyway, since getting my new laptop I have been trying so hard to best utilize my desktop space. I have a built-in desk in our kitchen and no matter how hard I try, ask and plead it still seems to be everyone dumping ground, never mind we have a rather great sized mudroom for just this purpose. I want the desk to be pretty, simple and functional, not cluttered, dis-organized and ugly. So, I continue to look for inspiration and ideas, space plans, etc...but Lori's board is lovely and I wish I could hang a board over my desk however the there is a big ol' plug right smack dab in the middle of the wall, leaving it pretty useless (and unattractive)! Anyway, if anyone has any ideas or thoughts, please share. I am on a big organizing, Spring cleaning/decorating kick, not really spending any money (saving for Springbreak) just trying to use what I already have to "update" things...stop by Lori's blog, you will not be disappointed! http://www.ajourneytoourdaughter.blogspot.com/

Oh you're so sweet Amanda. I had to come see what picture you were talking about....I didn't even remember I had that and that board now looks twice as full! hahaa
I say you go ahead and let everyone dump on that desk and you move yourself right into that roomy mudroom and create a little space for yourself! Off limits to everyone else of course! :)
Our silly builder put a plug and a phone jack right smack on the wall in front of my kitchen desk too (I should have made him change it!) so of course I had to find a way to hide it, so I hung a lightweight canvas print, the kind that are framed on wood, they're hollow in the back, I think mine is a vineyard sign or wine label maybe? Anyway, it works great and you can't tell. Our phone is cordless now so I don't need to plug it in but cords still can hang from behind the picture and if it doesn't lay flat, just put little clear or felt bumper pads on the frame corners to create space between the wall and print. If the picture thing won't work, you could also try an artificial plant or topiary that is high enough to cover that area? That's what worked for me anyway.
Now if I can just figure out how to keep stuff from getting dumped on the desk....let me know if you find a solution!! :)
